Basketball Shoe & Shoe Lace..

A few months before I came to Adelaide, I met an akh from UK. He dropped by KBU (Kolej Bndr Utama, where I had my foundation year).

One afternoon, we were playing basketball together. Me and his 'usrah'mates from UK as well. When we're on our way to the basketball court, I saw his basketball shoe. Still shiny and still have that 'bau kedai'. If I'm not mistaken, the model was Hyperfuse (It was expensive at that time. Around RM300-400. Only 'tokey emas' can buy that).

So, we had a little conversation. Me and him....

Me   :  Wow, that pair of shoe looks new. I looked at the review and it has good performance too.

Akh  :  Oh, this shoe... ? This is a little bit special compared to any I had before.

Me   :  Oh, why's that? (puzzled)

Akh  :  You see those guys? (pointing towards his 'usrah'mates, walking down the road to the court).

Me   :  Yeah...

Akh  :  Yup, those guys bought it for me. (^^)

Me   :  (O.o) (*speechless!)

Akh  :  Ukhuwwah values more than this. It's not about the shoe, it's about the willingness to sacrifice some of the things that you loved, to someone that you care for the sake of Allah.

I looked down, looking at my run-down basketball shoe (not that I want a new one, haha). Looking at my shoe lace.

Ukhuwwah is indeed like a shoe lace, while Islam is like the shoe. With a carefully tied shoe lace, you can walk with the shoe, in fact, run with it without falling down. No problem at all. This Deen of Islam can soar as high as it can get. The Ustaziatul Alam (Islam as the world's 'trend-setter') that we've ever dreamed of.

But if it is untied, forget running, walking too can make you fall and bleed. Each end of the shoe lace have its role to play. You can't tie your shoe just with one end of the shoe lace, right? So, value it before the shoe can no more be used. Isn't ukhuwwah is one of the core of this Ummah? Take good care of it, will ya~

"FASTBREAK" for Lailatul Qadr

What is the significant between Basketball and Lailatul Qadr???

Well, not that significant, I suppose. But there is... in a way.

Did you just asked 'How'? Well, isn't the hunt for Lailatul Qadr requires you to wake up 1/3 of every night and start making du'a to ask for forgiveness and other stuff?

Well, that IS significant, isn't it? Being better at basketball, not only because of your training, but it's because of whether Allah wills it or not.

No matter how much you've trained, if Allah do not wills it, then you won't be better in basketball.

As a Muslim, it's important to know that, "There is no other will and strength other than the help of Allah" (lahawlawala quwwata illa billah).

So, get up, make du'a.

If you desire to be better in basketball. You have to wake up at night, pray and make du'a to Allah cos He is closer to you at this very moment. If it hits Lailatul Qadr, than that's really great.

Cos you'll be in NBA in no time, hehehe.

What's wrong with just working out and doing drills?

That's the thing isn't it? That's the common mentality that WE, people who wants to improve their game have.

WE TEND TO FORGET ALLAH IN THIS MATTER!

WHY?! Wallah He is the One and only who provides you your dribbling, your crossover, your shooting and your quickness to drive to the basket.

We tend to forget the One who gave it to us.

It's a gift from Allah to make you a Qudwah to other people out there.

Let's look at a situation.....

When you give presents or gifts to someone, I bet you'll love the person more, than the gift itself, don't you agree with me?

The same goes to basketball skills.

It is gift to you from Allah. BY RIGHT, you should love Him more than basketball.

That's the way to go about it.

We should believe that these skills and attributes come from Allah.

Just asking from Allah alone, is not enough..

Yeah, so damn true. You have to work for it. You have to work on your game.

Allah wants to see your effort in this.

You got no effort, you got no game.

Cos if you do wake up at night and start praying and search for Lailatul Qadr...

I dare to guarantee that your workout, your drills for your game of basketball will take you to a higher level.

You have to.....

WORK + DU'A + TAWAKAL = DRAMATICALLY IMPROVED BASKETBALL PLAYER.

But don't just ask that and make it your priority.

Make it as something extra to ask from Allah during this last ten nights of Ramadan.

We still have time for that.

Let's Rebound and go for some fastbreak for Lailatul Qadr...

~ Salam Al-Qadr from me

Reebok Answer XII - I want to be like youuu~ (>.<)

"Sheesh... look at this pair of kicks."
"What's up?"
"It's nice...looks pretty good"
"Huh.. wait till you put it on. It works great. Makes you feel like Allen Iverson. Haha."

Well, at least that's what I think...haha. Allen Iverson, is the name of my favourite basketball player playing in the NBA and this basketball shoes was designed for him. So, I'm pretty honoured to be wearing one of his shoes. (^o^)v

I ended up buying this shoe cos it's ways cheaper here, buying online costs me around 72AUD. Whereby in Malaysia, it could cost me around RM500 - 600, which is RIDICULOUS for a pair of shoes... duhh! My personal thought about this shoe is, it's niiiicceeeee~ The design is pretty cool, stylish, color scheme is pretty good. Well, that's the outside of it. Looking into its performance, I've only worn it twice. So, I can't really tell, but so far it works well for me. It's comfortable, good grip and really supports fast movement and quick change in direction. Addition to that, it has some sort of Achilles tendon support at the back of the shoe. It's light and superb cushioning. Again, it depends on the individual and personally, for me, that's how I felt. So, to describe this shoe...
"Looks great, works even better." ;)

I mean, that's the kind of shoe that people are looking for when they want to buy some sport shoes, be it basketball, football or anything. Especially to someone who is really a hard-core player of the sport, they will consider these two aspects. However, in today's entry, I'm not gonna talk about this new pair of kicks that I just bought not too long ago. Instead of seeing it as a great basketball shoe, it kinda like crossed in my mind and somehow this shoe have given a lesson of life, seriously. Looking it from the view of our hearts and soul, it's important to be like this shoe. Why? Maybe I should ask you again, don't you want to have a good heart and remarkable akhlaq (manners) at the same time? Isn't that what was thought by our beloved prophet Muhammad SAW? You want to look good on the inside and you want to look good on the outside.

As a Muslim, that's the way it should be. We might say, I'm being good is enough for me. Why would I bother about solat, covering my aurat, etc. I'm good already. Well, that's good on the outside, but you're not being good with Allah, you are not fulfilling your syahadah. Once you're in Islam, you have to take everything, no patches. Allah has said in the Quran, in Chapter Al-Baqarah...

"O you who believe, embrace Islam fully and do not follow the steps of Syaitan, for he is clearly your enemy."

On the other hand, someone who is really pious, a soleh person, devoted his life and have a very conscious Islamic awareness in his heart, but never wanted to act with the right akhlaq. When they were told to dress decently and properly, they would said it's all dunya stuff, Allah gets angry for doing such a thing. I mean come on, isn't cleanliness part of Iman? Isn't dressing decently was what our prophet Muhammad SAW did? Because what we do, is going to reflect the inside. People are going to judge what's on the outside and this leads people to question Islam.

So, let's be like this shoe, good outside and good inside. It's important to look at every situation with our heart because I believe that there are 1001 lessons that Allah wants us to take for every situation He puts us in. Even with a pair of basketball shoe, if you look with the right point of view, you'll get something.

*P/S = some people might say that this is just a way for me to feel good buying this shoe. But who cares anyway, haha. Don't overspend, buy what you need, not what you want.. (Al-Isra';21)

What's wrong with BASKETBALL?!

Are you asking me??? How would I know. It seems perfectly fine with me. What is wrong with it anyway?

I don't know. People said it's all dunya stuff and you're wasting your time working on your game and playing.

SAY WHAT?! Are you serious? Yo, who that man telling you all those piece of crap?

Assalamualaikum, hehe

Well, that's a bit of intro to go about. In this entry, I'm just going to touch about Basketball or generally sports and how we can play with the pleasure of Allah for every shot that we take. I used to be a hard core basketballer and in fact, I'm still is. From top to toe, it has to be about basketball and this guy named Allen Iverson, has always been an idol for me to work on my game and play like him. Here's a photo of him...

Great basketballer with great personality. He might have some issue with his appearance but they way he look at his game and his memorable quote was "I play my game as if it was my last" drove me all the way in all aspects of life. Not just basketball, but it could be anything. When I do something, I try to do it as if it was last time doing it.

SOoooo... back to the issue. When I first got myself involved in da'wah and tarbiyyah with ISMA (Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia), I felt that playing basketball is doing me no good. I stopped for a while. It's all dunya stuff. It's not taking me anywhere and I stopped trying to be better at it. But after going through from one halaqah (sort of sitting down in a circle with some Quran recitation and Islamic knowledge discussion) to another and from one reading to another. I found out that working on your game was never wrong. Islam never prohibits someone to improve their game. In fact, it is a sunnah from our Prophet Muhammad SAW.

"It's a sunnah? FOR REAL?!"

Bingo. Yes it is! Working on your game is a Sunnah. Why won't it be a Sunnah if playing sports alone is Sunnah. Just want to bring you guys back into Prophet Muhammad's lifetime. He played sports, sports which are famous during his time. And we are all aware that he recommends three sports as narrated in this hadith by Bukhari and Muslim, "Teach your children riding a horse, swimming and archery." Well, Prophet Muhammad was the best of athlete during his time. Be it in archery, horse riding or even swimming. Prophet Muhammad is at the top of his game. In one the hadith that I want to highlight here is that Prophet Muhammad once said,

"A stronger mukmin is better and loved more by Allah than a weaker mukmin."
                                          (Muslim)

There you go, clear cut that working on your game was never wrong. In fact it is encouraged. hehe. So no worries. Do work on your game, nobody can say NO to you.

So, guys, a few points to take away from today's entry is, everyone and I mean it..... EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW THAT SPORTS IS A SUNNAH and WORKING ON YOUR GAME IS A SUNNAH because Prophet Muhammad stay at the top his game and for us to stay at the top of our game, we have to work on it. When somebody play basketball or even any sports, knowing it as a sunnah, so every shot you take is an ongoing process of gaining the pleasure of Allah. It makes you healthy is two aspects, your heart and your body. It's important when we go out for basketball or any sports, make intentions of performing a sunnah and to empower you body for better obedience towards Allah. Ain't Islam beautiful? ;)

Don't worry, keep working on your game cos that's what the Prophet SAW do ~

Prophet Muhammad SAW said :
"Have fun and play sports. I do not like people seeing restriction in practicing your religion."
